About us

Battery Works had humble beginnings in November 1994 in Aspley, a northern suburb of Brisbane. The founder, Graham Bungate began by repacking power tool and mobile phone batteries under the house of partner, Brian Sowry and built a business called ‘’Power Repackers Pty Ltd.’’ After two years, with a staff of four people, the business moved to a shop front in Hendra and the staff increased to 10.

With the reducing price of new batteries coming from Asia the company, to compete in the growing battery market, started to import some selected batteries from Taiwan and China under the Stoltz quality brand. Much time and effort was given to checking the quality and longevity of the components to ensure a very high standard.

After eight years at Hendra, with now cramped conditions, the business then moved to a brand new, custom designed warehouse at Nundah.

It was at this time, to reflect the changed nature of the business away from just repacking batteries; the name was changed to Battery Works Pty Ltd.

The new premises have allowed the company to dramatically increase the range and diversity of batteries available and large stocks of new batteries are kept on hand for immediate delivery.

The original repacking operation is still available but now mainly concentrates on batteries that are unusual or electronically sophisticated or are no longer available as new. We now have an extensive battery testing and diagnostic laboratory which assists greatly in the acquisition and approval of new battery products.

Over the years, as battery chemistries have improved and changed from NiCd, to NiMH, to Li-ion and Li-Pol (and whatever for the future) it has been important to have experienced and knowledgeable staff. Battery Works is proud of the staff longevity which gives it the solid base of knowledge of battery technology required in the constantly changing battery industry. The original partner, Brian Sowry, sadly passed away in 2011. The company founder, Graham Bungate has since happily retired.
